BROGDON ANNOUNCES BID FOR SENATE, OPPOSITION TO MCCONNELL
TULSA, OK – Former Oklahoma Senator Randy Brogdon today officially announced he is running for the United States Senate seat currently held by Sen. Tom Coburn. In his announcement, Brogdon said he will back new Republican leadership to push for the real change needed to save the country from financial ruin.
Brogdon said, “I am running for Senate because I believe our country is in a full-fledged spending crisis, and both Democrats and Republicans are to blame. The Washington tradition of going along to get along has given us a $17 trillion debt and a stagnant economy.” He added, “I’m not going to Washington to manage the mess, I’m going up there to help dismantle it.”
Brogdon made his intention clear to work with others to change Republican leadership in the Senate by saying, “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been complicit in growing the scope of government and creating trillions of dollars in new debt. He should resign immediately for the sake of our country’s future, and for the good of the Republican Party. But if we’re both elected, I will do everything in my power to support a true leader to replace him. Unless and until we have a Republican leader willing to stand on our principles, we’ll have no chance of doing what’s needed to save our country from financial ruin.”
Brogdon concluded his announcement by explaining, “It’s not enough to elect people who say the right thing on the campaign trail. It’s time to elect people with the courage to stand up and fight alongside leaders like Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. I pledge to the people of Oklahoma that I will always be a fighter for them. Whether it’s the fight to defund Obamacare or the fight to stop the cycle of debt limit increases, I will not kowtow to President Obama or even the Republican establishment. I will always put Oklahoma taxpayers first.”
Randy Brogdon built a successful small business with his father before serving the citizens of Owasso, Oklahoma as a member of the city council and then as mayor. He subsequently served two successful terms in the Oklahoma State Senate. Randy is known for his fierce opposition to wasteful spending and higher taxes. The Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Oklahoma will take place on June 24, 2014.
