Shannon Addresses Concerns With Tulsa Young Republicans

T.W. Shannon hews to conservative message at Young Republicans meeting

Corporate taxes, church and state and the legacy of Ronald Reagan were among the topics covered by U.S. Senate candidate T.W. Shannon Thursday night at a Tulsa Young Republicans’ gathering on Riverside Drive.

Responding to questions, Shannon said he learned his conservative political principles “in the pews of the Bethlehem Baptist Church” in Lawton, and would carry them to the Senate if elected.

“The separation of church and state was never intended to mean that faith has no place in government,” he said. “It was intended to protect the church from the state.”

Shannon may get some disagreements on his answer, but it was in keeping with his message of political and religious conservativeness.

Shannon, who considers himself a protege of former Congressman J.C. Watts, was asked about the influence of the late Ronald Reagan.
