Hofmeister Endorsed by Over 40 GOP Lawmakers
The Joy Hofmeister campaign today announced that 43 Republican state lawmakers have endorsed Joy Hofmeister for state education superintendent, more than doubling the number of endorsements over a few months ago.
“For so many GOP lawmakers to step forward and say that Joy Hofmeister is a credible conservative alternative is an honor,” Hofmeister said. “But I think it’s also an indictment on the failed leadership of Janet Barresi and a clear declaration that a new direction is needed.”
“It’s an honor to have the support of such a large group of Republican legislators who are duly elected by the conservatives in their communities,” Hofmeister said. “I’m proud they are willing to speak out.”
Lawmaker support for Hofmeister seems to span the rural – urban divide.
Republican Rep. Earl Sears, of Bartlesville, pointed to Hofmeister’s education experience and collaborative style.
“Joy has the leadership and experience necessary to reform education with Oklahoma parents, teachers and school board members working together,” Sears said.
Rep. Charles McCall, whose rural district has no single town with a population more than 5,000, also endorsed Hofmeister.
“Joy has worked hard to learn about rural schools, and understands that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for our small communities,” McCall said.
Sen. Corey Brooks, of Washington, touted Joy’s background and leadership.
“Joy Hofmeister understands the issues faced by parents and educators and has the professionalism and experience necessary to provide the leadership we need,” Brooks said.
Hofmeister attributes the mounting endorsements to her willingness to listen, collaborate and her desire to uncover the root causes of issues in education rather than to simply focus on the symptoms.
“These lawmakers, like all Oklahomans, are tired of dictatorial leadership that is constantly putting out the latest fire, rather than listening to stakeholders and finding real, lasting reforms,” Hofmeister said.
The endorsements come at a crucial time in the campaign. Election Day is June 24th, less than three weeks away.
