MAJOR GENERAL RITA ARAGON, SECRETARY OF MILITARY & VETERANS AFFAIRS, ENDORSES STEVE RUSSELL FOR CONGRESS

July 15, 2014

Lt. Col. Steve Russell, GOP Candidate for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District, is honored to announce the endorsement of Oklahoma’s Secretary of Military & Veterans’ Affairs, Major General Rita Aragon. Because of Gen. Aragon’s distinguished military career, Governor Mary Fallin appointed her to lead Veterans Affairs in 2010.

“To have the support of Major General Aragon, a woman who blazed a trail of leadership in the military, is truly an honor,” says Russell. “We are thrilled to have her join the growing juggernaut of support to our campaign.”

General Aragon points to Lt. Col. Russell’s impressive accomplishments as an American on and off the battlefield.

“Lt. Col. Russell is a hero and a living legend,” says Aragon. “It’s time we put a man of great character back in Congress. And if ever there were a time to put a hero in Congress, the time is now. I believe in his integrity and devotion to this nation. It’s time for everyone who has ever worn a uniform, anyone who believes in liberty and freedom, to step up and vote for Steve Russell.”

Gen. Aragon became the first woman in history to hold the rank of Brigadier General of the United States National Guard when she became the Commander and Assistant Adjutant General for the Oklahoma Air National Guard in March 2003. She was named 2008 Woman of the Year by The Journal Record and is a member of the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame.
