FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 7/28/2014
Douglas Builds Momentum Ahead of Runoff – Oklahoma State Board of Education Member Major General (Ret.) Leo J. Baxter Announces Endorsement
EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma State Board of Education member Major General (Ret.) Leo J. Baxter today endorsed conservative Republican Patrice Douglas for Congress and urged his fellow Oklahomans to support Douglas’ candidacy in the August 26 Republican primary runoff.
General Baxter departed from active military service in 1999 as Army Major General after 31 years. He is the former State President of the Association of the United States Army for the State of Oklahoma and is the President Emeritus of the United States Field Artillery Association. In his endorsement, Gen. Baxter applauded Douglas’ resolve in fighting federal overreach, standing up for Oklahoma values and conservative principles. Baxter’s endorsement comes on the heels of several high profile endorsements on behalf of Douglas.
“I am honored to endorse Conservative Republican Patrice Douglas for Congress. As Chairman of the Corporation Commission, Patrice has taken on the Obama administration’s job-killing EPA mandates and has returned millions to taxpayers by exposing fraud and abuse in the Obama Phone program. As mayor of the fifth largest city in Oklahoma, she served as a steady hand during one of the nation’s worst economic downturns, saved the taxpayers millions and made the tough choices to accomplish the city’s needs instead of its wants,” Gen. Baxter said. “In Congress, Patrice will work to find solutions that generate a positive economic environment for Oklahoma small business owners. Moreover, she will fight to repeal Obamacare, reduce spending and bring sound solutions to Washington. The men and women of our armed forces deserve a U.S. Representative that has the attention to detail and perseverance to get the job done. The best person I know for this job is Conservative Republican Patrice Douglas.”
Douglas thanked Major General Baxter for his support. “I am humbled by the growing support in Oklahoma’s military community. General Baxter will be a valuable ally as we work to create jobs and boost our Sooner economy and get Washington’s runaway spending under control.”
General Baxter serves as Senior Military Advisor to the Director of the George W. Bush Military Service Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma State Board of Career and Technology Education by Governor Frank Keating and was appointed eight years later by Governor Mary Fallin to the same board as well as the State Board of Education and the Oklahoma Council for Educational Opportunity for Military Children. He serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs.
The Republican run-off will occur Tuesday, August 26, 2014.
