OK House Won’t Take Up Study On Constitutionality Question
Oklahoma Legislature’s interim studies won’t include why lawmakers pass unconstitutional legislation

Legislative interim studies get underway this week and lawmakers will examine, among other things, what would happen if terrorists somehow managed to set off an electromagnetic pulse in the skies above Oklahoma. A more earthbound study request has been rejected for the second straight year.
Rep. Kay Floyd wants to know why the Legislature keeps passing unconstitutional bills.
“Well, I’m disappointed,” said Floyd, an Oklahoma City Democrat who once worked as an assistant Oklahoma attorney general. “I’m hopeful that we’ll still be able to get some information and people together to visit about it and come up with some solutions.”
House Speaker Jeff Hickman, R-Dacoma, rejected Floyd’s request, saying constitutional review is the court’s duty alone.
