At the Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion, the names of the state’s 27 governors are embroidered in the carpet covering the staircase steps, but it’s hard to read the beige lettering on the lightly colored rug.
One name stands out.
Gov. Mary Fallin had the foresight to use dark thread.
As she prepares to be sworn in for a second and final four-year term, the former hotel district manager also is hoping to have her name stamped in bold letters on efforts to make the state healthier, more prosperous and better-educated.
The Republican governor spoke to The Oklahoman in the library of the 86-year-old mansion where she lives with her husband, Wade Christensen, and a couple of well-mannered Labrador retrievers. The three-story building contained six Christmas trees, and Fallin enjoyed showing off finely appointed, wood-floored rooms where she hosts political and business leaders.
