State schools Superintendent Joy Hofmeister, citing underpaid teachers, understaffed schools and overflowing classrooms, is calling on legislators and educators to work together to improve public education in Oklahoma.
“Legislators need to listen to members of the education community and educators must be ready to be an active part of setting policy,” Hofmeister said Thursday during an appearance at the Capitol to promote a new statewide education initiative.
“Let’s put the voice of the people who know our schools best back into the process of education policy making.”
Hofmeister pointed to a “constant flow of new and burdensome government mandates” she said “robs teachers, administrators and local communities of influence over their own classrooms.”
