A spokeswoman for First District Congressman Jim Bridenstine said Wednesday there is a good chance the Tulsa Republican will join the most recent effort to oust U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner.

Sheryl Kaufman said Bridenstine “absolutely supports new leadership” in the House, and noted he has twice voted for someone other than Boehner for speaker.

Kaufman said Bridenstine is “reviewing” a resolution filed Tuesday by North Carolina Republican Mark Meadows to declare the speakership vacant.

While theoretically possible, no such tactic for removing a speaker has ever succeeded. The resolution has been assigned to the Rules Committee, which is controlled by Boehner and includes among its members Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole, a Boehner ally.
