House Honors Late Rep. David Brumbaugh on Floor
The House honored the late Rep. David Brumbaugh on the House Floor today, allowing Representatives George Faught (R-Muskogee) and Mike Ritze (R-Broken Arrow) to address the members and speak about Brumbaugh.
Brumbaugh (R-Broken Arrow) passed away on Saturday evening.
The House placed a folded United States flag on Brumbaugh’s desk and draped an Oklahoma flag across his empty chair. Brumbaugh was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army’s legendary 101st Airborne Division.
“One of the greatest honors of serving in the Legislature is getting to work with men and women from all across Oklahoma who truly have the best interests of our state in mind,” said House Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka. “David was a serious lawmaker, and he really believed in the work he was doing on behalf of his constituents. He was one of the kindest and most sincere men I have ever known. He had many friends on both sides of the aisle and most who knew him held a deep respect for him inside and outside the Capitol. Every member of the House and our staff will miss him, and our prayers are with his sweet wife, Shelley, and his two daughters who are hurting deeply.”
Brumbaugh had served House District 76 since 2010, winning the seat after former state. Rep. John Wright was term limited.
His legislative career was marked by a desire to protect the unborn and reduce the number of abortions in Oklahoma and a passion for reducing bureaucracy and waste in government spending. He was also a noted champion of protecting the state’s investments in roads and bridges, and was a reliable vote for legislation that incentivized economic growth, particularly in the energy industry.
He was appointed in 2012 to serve on the Energy Council, a non-profit, legislative organization made up of 12 states and two international affiliates dedicated to promoting sound energy policy. In 2014, he was elected to serve on the Executive Committee for the Energy Council.
Also in 2014, Brumbaugh was elected by the Republican Caucus to serve as Majority Caucus Chair, a position he was re-elected to in 2016.
Brumbaugh was President and owner of DRB Industries, LLC, a Broken Arrow-based air filtration and cooling technology company. He and his wife, Shelley, have two daughters, Abigail and Hannah. They are members of Tulsa Bible Church where he served as an ordained deacon.
