House Speaker McCall Says House Prepared to Look At Alternative Options to Address Budget Hole
House Speaker Charles McCall said today that House Republicans are ready to move on to alternative options for addressing the $215 million budget shortfall after a vote today on a revenue package in a Joint Committee on Appropriations and Budget (JCAB) meeting that included an increase in the motor fuel tax, cigarette tax, tobacco tax, 3.2 beer tax and a an increase in the gross production tax received almost no support from House Democrats and limited support from House Republicans.
“It is clear after today’s vote in the JCAB and after discussing the package further with House Republicans that there is no bipartisan support in the House for this package. The reality is, State Question 640 is working exactly as Oklahomans intended it to when they passed it two decades ago. They wanted to make it really hard for the Legislature to raise taxes, and I can assure them it is. At this point, it has become increasingly evident that there are likely no options that require 76 votes that can pass in the House. If additional revenue is needed, we are prepared to use the other provision in State Question 640 and send those revenue raising options to the citizens to let them decide at the ballot box whether they want their taxes raised or not.”
sure you will , because you cant let go of the kick backs you get from big industry. and we all know it . and you have plenty of revenue , 7% GPT , 5% wind and 1% on all other entities or corporations doing business in this state as for your 4% that’s crap, since this is where it was before you lowered it . as for the tax payer leave, us alone ! its call kick the can, you should have made up the difference already with your so called secession’s seeing they cost the tax payer 30k a day and your short fall should be almost covered .
