Lamb, Panel Make Safety Recommendations
Oklahoma school security panel makes recommendations
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Members of a state task force created after the deadly shooting at a Connecticut elementary school have submitted five recommendations for legislative action to help prevent similar attacks in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Commission on School Security finalized the recommendations Tuesday. The recommendations include creating an Oklahoma School Security Institute that would coordinate and standardize school security procedures statewide. Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb chairs the 22-member Commission on School Security. He says it would cost about $500,000 to create the institute.
Other recommendations include establishing a mental health first-aid pilot training program, mandatory safety drills at public schools and a school security tip line.
