For the second time in as many weeks, a conservative group has targeted an Oklahoma Republican for a primary challenge.
First it was the Third District’s Frank Lucas. Now it’s the Fourth’s Cole.
A former college lineman, Cole has been acting as more of a blocking back for Speaker John Boehner and other relatively moderate Republicans over the past four months. He has praised some of the more extreme Republicans for their enthusiasm but criticized them for what he says is a lack of strategic thinking.
On Wednesday, a conservative organization called the Madison Project published an online blog referring to Cole as “the only liberal left” in the Fourth District. It concludes by urging the “residents of conservative southwest Oklahoma” to “find someone who is not schooled in the political maturity of Washington to replace this paragon of statesmanship.”
