Carnuccio: Game Of Half-Truths
Free Market Friday: Game of half-truths
By Michael C. Carnuccio, Guest Columnist
Governing is a game of half-truths. Advance your cause by eliciting enough support through selective application of information. Remember, politics is the process of power and control, not the truth setting you free.
Sequestration is a perfect example. What was supposed to be a double down on the president’s agenda where class warfare feeds increased government dependency quickly turned into overplaying perceived leverage.
We were all told that life as we know it would end should government face mandatory reductions in spending, intended to avoid total fiscal calamity. We need to prepare our families for life in the 15th century should government be forced to live within its means.
Unfortunately for President Barack Obama, the sun came up and the Earth is still spinning on its axis. As it turns out, Americans are more concerned about putting food on their tables than not being privileged with a few days’ worth of White House tours.
