OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma House of Representatives on Thursday passed and sent to Gov. Mary Fallin the four measures resulting from a state commission on school safety chaired by Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb.
Lamb said the Legislature’s quick action “illustrates the extraordinary commitment Oklahoma’s policymakers have to our students.”
The four bills create a school safety institute within the state Department of Homeland Security, increase the number of school emergency drills, coordinate school emergency plans with local law enforcement agencies and require districts to notify law enforcement officials of unauthorized guns found on campus.
“I applaud the passage of the legislation today but I’m also reminded that we must as a state continually address school security,” said Lamb. “No one policy or bill can prevent all evil.”
