Lewis Outlines Campaign for Auditor
NEWS RELEASE
APRIL 2013
JOSH LEWIS, CANDIDATE FOR TULSA CITY AUDITOR, 2013
Josh Lewis, CPA, a successful auditor in both the private and public sectors, announced and filed for the election to become Tulsa’s next City Auditor.
Why Josh is the Most Qualified Candidate for the City Auditor position:
As the most senior member of the State Auditor’s Tulsa office, Josh played a prominent role in the EMSA investigative audit that recently made headlines for uncovering wasteful and extravagant spending that was inappropriate for a public trust. He has worked for Gary Jones, State Auditor, for two years, auditing county governments, federal grants, emergency medical services, and performing multiple investigative/fraud engagements.
Josh became a CPA in 2009 and received a degree in accounting from the College of the Ozarks in 2006 where he graduated summa cum laude. After graduating Josh gained five years of experience with two reputable public accounting firms — BKD and Sartain Fischbein & Co — both in Tulsa. His clients included the City of Tulsa and the Cherokee & Choctaw Indian Nations, among many others.
Josh is the only candidate who does not have strong ties to anyone running for Mayor. His independence will allow him to examine the books without prejudice or bias regardless who runs the city. He will provide Tulsa with the assertive City
Auditor we need.
Why Josh is Running:
The skills Josh has acquired in the private and public sectors will significantly benefit the City of Tulsa. The City Auditor’s office has had the same stagnant structure and lack of vision for 25 years. If we want an invigorated, effective City Auditor who does more than bring us the status quo we must elect a candidate who embodies that same energy that drives Tulsa. Josh brings a new energy, a fresh, outside perspective to an office that needs a renewed sense of leadership and purpose.
The office is budgeted more than the Mayor’s office and almost as much as the entire City Council. The current City
Auditor, however, has completed less than 25% of the projects identified in his own audit plan. Not only has the City Auditor failed to identify government inefficiencies, his office has become one of the greatest inefficiencies in the city today.
“Tulsa is a vibrant city and it deserves elected officials who are accountable, transparent, and respectable,” Lewis stated, “It’s time for the office to get back to work, protect taxpayers’ money, and ensure city government is run efficiently.”
