Rep. Frank Lucas defends push for government ammo inventory

SAPULPA – U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas said Monday that Congress has a right to know how many bullets federal agencies have.
“If some agencies have a two-year supply of ammunition, if there’s something that scary going on out there, we need to know about it,” he said. “I don’t think there’s anything that bad out there.”
Lucas spoke to about 50 people here, in the ballroom of the Collins Building, which houses several Creek County government departments.
Lucas said he and Sen. Jim Inhofe filed House Resolution 1764, called the AMMO Act, to get an “inventory” of government-owned ammunition. Claims that government agencies, particularly the Department of Homeland Security, are buying up ammo to keep it away from citizens has prompted something close to hysteria on some fronts, with a number of retailers reporting shortages.
