OKLAHOMA CITY – Measures aimed at increasing safety in schools are among dozens of laws taking effect Monday.
Monday also marks the beginning of state fiscal year 2014. The fiscal year 2014 state budget is $7.1 billion.
School safety became an issue at the onset of the Legislative session, which began in February.
The 22-member Oklahoma Commission on School Safety was created following the December killings of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The panel held a number of meetings before releasing recommendations which were later put into law.
