Bridenstine weather bill advances in House

WASHINGTON — First District Congressman Jim Bridenstine’s bill mandating a shift in resources from climate research to weather forecasting advanced from subcommittee with no substantive changes on Tuesday.

In discussion, Bridenstine framed his bill as a matter of public safety and said disproportionate time and money have been allocated to more speculative climate research.

California Republican Dana Rohrabacher went further, saying climate research has been skewed to encourage findings that “alarms the public to the point it will accept a decline in their standard of living and the restriction of their activities.”

Science, Space and Technology Committee subcommittee on Environment Subcommittee Chairman Chris Stewart of Utah, though, said the bill’s intent is not to undermine climate research but to assure a reasonable share of resources are devoted to weather forecasting.
