GOP Continues To Grow Among OK Voters
Oklahoma voter registration moving toward Republican Party
By RANDY KREHBIEL World Staff Writer
Oklahoma has been voting Republican for years. Maybe, just maybe, this year it will be registered Republican, too.
The state Election Board’s voter registration report, released every year on Jan. 15, shows that the GOP has moved to within roughly 31,000 voters of Democrats, who have held the advantage in registration since statehood.
This year’s report lists 885,609 Democrats, 854,329 Republicans, 238,870 independents, and four people registered as America Elects party members. That’s the closest Republicans and Democrats have ever been in registration numbers.
Given long-term trends, Oklahoma Republicans might officially outnumber Democrats by election day in November.
