OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislators would be allowed to carry firearms anywhere in Oklahoma under a bill filed by state Sen. Mark Allen, R-Spiro. They would be required to complete a handgun qualification course.
Lawmakers who choose to carry a gun would be issued an identification card from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training. The measure requires the card to be surrendered to CLEET when the person is no longer a member of the Oklahoma Legislature.
Senate Bill 26 outlines no restrictions on where House and Senate members could carry firearms.
Capt. Paul Timmons with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety said Thursday that currently there are limitations on who may bring a gun into the Oklahoma Capitol.
