Tulsa needs “continuity of leadership” to duplicate the economic successes of similar cities, Mayor Dewey Bartlett said in a campaign address Tuesday at the Tulsa Press Club.

“When I decided to run for mayor … the one (reason) that really came to the top of the surface is that we have not had continuity of leadership in our city for quite some time, both in the political side of things and the business side of things,” he said.

The growth of several peer cities – including Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M. – has outpaced growth in Tulsa over the past several decades, he said.

“One common thread that they all have is that most of them have had – not all of them have had – continuity of continuous leadership that provides vision and opportunity for growth and economic prosperity,” Bartlett said.
