Bridenstine Bill Directs Weather Forecasting, Not Global Warming Research
Early-forecast weather research would get boost under Bridenstine bill

Fair to partly cloudy might be the early forecast for First District Congressman Jim Bridenstine’s attempt to bolster weather forecasting research.
Bridenstine introduced legislation this week to “prioritize and redirect” National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration resources by shifting them from climate to weather research. The bill – H.R. 2413 – was the subject of a hearing by a subcommittee of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee on Wednesday.
Bridenstine is the newly appointed vice chairman of that committee.
“The inadequacy of attention to potentially life-saving advances in weather forecasting is evidenced by the fact that NOAA’s research arm currently spends more than three times as much on climate change research (as) it does on weather forecasting research,” Bridenstine said.
