Bridenstine favors greater force in Iraq

The U.S. should reassert itself more forcefully in Iraq, First District Congressman Jim Bridenstine said Thursday.

“American troops are already there,” said Bridenstine, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “If we’re going to do these kinds of operations, we have to win.”

A former Navy pilot who flew combat missions in the region, Bridenstine was responding to questions about the organization known variously as ISIS, ISIL and the Islamic State that has been terrorizing much of Iraq in recent months.

Early this week, it posted video of what appeared to be the beheading of American photojournalist James Foley, allegedly by a British citizen recruited by the breakaway Muslim extremists. It has promised more of the same if the U.S. does not stop active support of ISIS’ opponents.
