A rewrite of the rules that govern lobbying and the financing of state political campaigns is on schedule for completion in January, Oklahoma Ethics Commission Director Lee Slater said Thursday.

Speaking at an “informal hearing” at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa, Slater said the first set of draft rules – dealing primarily with administrative matters – will be posted within the next few days.

He said additional draft rules on lobbying and campaign finance will be posted around the first of October and the first of November, and public hearings on the proposed changes will be held Oct. 25, Nov. 18 and Dec. 13.

The commission expects to vote on a final draft in January. Those rules will become effective 90 days after adoption unless they are rejected by the Legislature.

Thursday’s meeting was to provide public input and information in an informal setting, Slater said.
