The city of Tulsa should consider retaining the 6/10ths of a penny Vision 2025 sales tax when it expires to fund public safety, streets and other urgent needs, Mayoral Candidate Bill Christiansen said Tuesday.

Speaking at the Tulsa Press Club’s Page One luncheon, the former city councilor suggested city leaders hold public meetings before the tax expires at the end of 2016 to “see if the citizens of Tulsa, not Tulsa County, would go along with grabbing the 6/10ths of a penny for various things that Tulsa needs.”

Christiansen said the first thing he would do when he takes office is create a Sunshine Review Task Force to review everything from freedom of information requests to the use of TGOV, the city’s public access television station.

“We don’t operate in darkness,” Christiansen said. “The citizens have a right to know what is going on.”
