Former challenger endorses Taylor for mayor

Former mayoral candidate Bill Christiansen on Wednesday endorsed Kathy Taylor for mayor.
“On Sept. 19, I stood up and said I couldn’t support Dewey Bartlett for mayor because of his fiscal irresponsibility and lack of accountability and transparency,” Christiansen said during a press conference. “Sadly, since I made that statement in September, we have seen that irresponsibility and lack of accountability become even worse — much worse.”
Christiansen is a former city councilor. In the June 11 mayoral primary, he placed third behind Taylor and Mayor Dewey Bartlett. Taylor captured 42 percent of the vote to top Bartlett’s 34 percent and Christiansen’s 23 percent.
Taylor and Bartlett face off Tuesday in the city’s first nonpartisan mayoral election.
