Coburn rallies opposition to Boehner CR over spending

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) on Thursday created another headache for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other House GOP leaders who are trying to sell their party on a plan to keep the government operating after Oct. 1.

House leaders this week unveiled a three-month temporary spending bill that would fund discretionary agency budgets at an annualized level of $986.3 billion per year.

Deficit hawk Coburn on Thursday began circulating a “Dear Colleague” letter against the continuing resolution (CR). He opposes it because, under the 2011 debt-ceiling agreement, the top-line number for 2014 is actually supposed to be $967 billion.
