WASHINGTON _ Former U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn said Saturday night that a newspaper report suggesting he may run for president this year is wrong.
Coburn, who declined to be interviewed, responded to a text message about the New York Times story, saying, “The Times is wrong.”
Asked whether he would consider running for president, Coburn replied by text, “No.”
Coburn, 68, resigned from the Senate in early 2015 amid a fight against a rare form of prostate cancer, though Coburn said then that he did not leave for health reasons.
The Muskogee Republican endorsed U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio last month and slammed GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump.
