Rep. Tom Cole: Confederate flag wavers disrespectful, embarrassing

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Moore, released this statement on Thursday in regard to the people who waved Confederate flags at President Barack Obama in Durant and Oklahoma City during the president’s visit to those cities.
“I was shocked and disappointed by those who showed up to wave Confederate flags soon after President Obama arrived in Oklahoma.
“Their actions were not only disappointing but incredibly disrespectful, insensitive and embarrassing to the entire state. The unacceptable behavior displayed by these individuals certainly does not reflect the values and views of the vast majority of Oklahomans. No president should ever be confronted by such behavior, especially when the purpose of the visit was meant to celebrate and recognize some of our state’s greatest achievements.
“The office of President of the United States is deserving of the respect of all Americans, regardless of how deeply we may disagree on issues or policies. Political differences are never a justification to insult the president, and I believe that such action shows disrespect for the office itself.
Cole’s remarks about this being embarrassment and disrespectful is WRONG. That flag is not racism, that flag is NOT hate. That flag is a historical symbol of the south, that is also state rights issue and their flying it is freedom of speech.
what is disrespectful and embarrassing is cole’s remarks. He has shown his lack of knowledge of history and further raised the hate and racism from this bad, bad admin/president. odama has made this flag a hate and racist issue, not the decedents of those who fought for their state rights.
By the way, my forefathers come on the Mayflower and I don’t know of anyone who fought for the South, but as an American I will honor their rights and the right to their symbols and memories and will not demand that graves be moved and monuments torn down.
Mr. Cole, your march in lockstep with those buffoons in republican leadership are embarrassing not people exercising their right to free speech. The Obama has no respect for our Constitution which is why you and your cronies just got another end around played on you via Iran.
