Commissioner Doak Completes Fourth Annual 77-County Tour
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahomans across the state received vital insurance information thanks to Commissioner John D. Doak’s fourth annual 77-County Tour. Commissioner Doak wrapped up the 2014 tour Thursday with stops in Tillman, Jefferson and Cotton counties.
“Meeting with consumers in their hometowns is extremely important,” said Doak. “We serve all of Oklahoma, not just the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas.”
During his tours, Doak met with local fire departments and discussed the benefits of an ISO review. The Oklahoma Insurance Department’s ISO Coordinators help fire districts prepare for reviews by the Insurance Services Office. An improved rating can potentially lead to lower home insurance premiums.
Commissioner Doak also spent time with local law enforcement agencies. He explained the capabilities of the OID Anti-Fraud Unit and discussed the uninsured motorist law. The law allows officers, deputies and troopers to remove the tag from an uninsured vehicle and provides temporary liability insurance for the vehicle. The offender must pay for the cost of the temporary insurance, along with other required fees and fines, and purchase insurance to get his or her tag returned.
“Oklahoma’s high rate of uninsured drivers leads to higher premiums for everyone,” said Doak.
County tour visits also included meetings with Chambers of Commerce, professional and civic organizations, insurance agents and funeral homes. Commissioner Doak has promised to continue the 77-County Tour during his second term.
