FALLIN’S HEALTH CARE DOCUMENTS CONFIRM LACK OF LEADERSHIP
Shows Fallin Not Concerned About Best Interest of Oklahomans

OKLAHOMA CITY – Joe Dorman, Democratic nominee for Governor, expressed disappointment with the content of 31 documents released yesterday by Mary Fallin regarding the creation of a health care exchange and accepting Medicaid expansion, along with the lengthy process leading to their release.

“This entire process is proof of the unresponsiveness and lack of concern by Fallin. These documents should have been disclosed long ago without the need for a lawsuit,” said Dorman. “I do not understand how she can say she is ‘committed to transparency’ when she fought the release of these records in the courts and claimed ‘executive privilege’ — which doesn’t exist in Oklahoma law. I find it difficult to believe these documents would have ever been disclosed without persistence in this lawsuit.”

Dorman was also disturbed by the documents themselves, which show Fallin and her staff were concerned much more about politics than how this would impact Oklahomans.

“These documents contain little discussion about how Medicaid expansion would help Oklahomans. Rather, they show Fallin and her staff cared more about the political impact of their decisions,” said Dorman. “A chief executive cannot govern successfully this way. A governor cannot carry out the best interests of Oklahomans when the number one priority is how it will impact her politically. Thousands of Oklahomans who are suffering due to a lack of accessible health care are paying the price for Fallin’s poor leadership.”

Dorman said the documents prove Oklahoma can’t afford another four years of Mary Fallin.

“This begs the question — how many more decisions made by this administration have been based on political calculation rather than what is best for all Oklahomans? How many more lawsuits will be required to get records released from Fallin’s office? We cannot afford another four years of timid leadership that allows big donors and political expediency to trump the needs of Oklahomans,” said Dorman. “We need a strong bipartisan leader who will evaluate policies based on facts and what is in the best interest of Oklahoma — someone who will follow the Open Records Act and someone who is in touch with the challenges faced by hard-working Oklahomans. We can absolutely do better, and we must do better.”
