U.S. Congress candidates tout conservative ideals at forum

Candidates squaring off for the Republican nomination in Oklahoma’s 5th District U.S. House race outlined their conservative principles Monday in Oklahoma City, touching on subjects such as Common Core, immigration, and the Affordable Care Act.
Speaking at the Northwest Library at a candidate forum put on by the Oklahoma City Republican Women’s Club, Army veteran and former state Sen. Steve Russell and Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner and former Edmond Mayor Patrice Douglas were each given three-minute periods to express their views on specific topics.
The focal point of the forum was the Affordable Care Act, which both Russell and Douglas strongly opposed.
“We have a Congress that overstepped, a president that overstepped,” Douglas said. “They have infringed on our individual liberties and freedoms, and I support the immediate repeal of Obamacare.”
