Dr. Ben Carson announces support for T.W. Shannon
LAWTON, OK (April 4, 2014) — Dr. Ben Carson announced today that he is supporting T.W. Shannon in his bid to replace Dr. Tom Coburn in the United States Senate.
“I recently had the opportunity to meet T.W., and I was greatly impressed by his sincere desire to advance conservative principles,” said Dr. Carson. “I could tell right away that T.W. is the kind of conservative leader who will not be intimidated by the left. This is exactly the kind of leadership our party needs right now, and I am proud to announce my support for his efforts to serve in the U.S. Senate.”
Shannon said he was humbled and honored by Dr. Carson’s support.
“Dr. Carson has the kind of courage you don’t see very often,” said Shannon. “He speaks his mind with conviction, and he has quickly become one of the leading conservative voices opposing ObamaCare and many other liberal policies from the Obama Administration. I greatly admire him for taking the fight right to the liberal establishment, and I am honored to have his support.”
Dr. Carson’s support comes on the heels of many other endorsements including Governor and Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, the Senate Conservative Fund and U.S. Senator Mike Lee, and a week after Shannon announced more additions to his team of Oklahoma campaign chairmen.
“We are adding to the list of those who support us literally every day,” said Shannon. “It is truly a humbling experience to have the support of so many fellow Oklahomans, along with conservative leaders from across America. We will continue working right up until the polls close to win the support of Republicans throughout Oklahoma, so we can take our conservative principles to Washington, D.C., and reclaim the future of our great nation.”
About Dr. Carson
Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., had a childhood dream of becoming a physician. Growing up in a single parent home with dire poverty, poor grades, a horrible temper, and low self-esteem appeared to preclude the realization of that dream until his mother, with only a third-grade education, challenged her sons to strive for excellence. Young Ben persevered and today is an emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and he has directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for over 29 years. He became the inaugural recipient of a professorship dedicated in his name in May, 2008. He is now the Emeritus Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. and Dr. Evelyn Spiro, R.N. Professor of Pediatric Neurosurgery, having retired on June 30, 2013.
Dr. Carson was appointed in 2004 by President George W. Bush to serve on the President’s Council on Bioethics. He is a highly regarded motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences from school systems and civic groups to corporations and the President’s National Prayer Breakfast.
