Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association of Oklahoma to Change Its Name
Oklahoma City, OK – December 12, 2013 — Effective December 13, 2013, Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association of Oklahoma will change its name to the Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association.
The new name and logo will be officially unveiled on Thursday evening, December 12, 2013, at the Welcome Reception for the 2013 Annual Meeting at Kamp’s 1910 Café. The Welcome Reception will feature Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb.
On Friday, December 13, 2013, a luncheon at the Devon Energy Center will feature Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives T. W. Shannon and Oklahoma Secretary of Energy and Environment Michael Teague. They will speak about current industry issues and update the attendees about their plans for 2014 and the upcoming legislative session.
The new name, new logo and rebranding will reflect the renewed energy and focus that President Chad Warmington has brought to the Association. Warmington said, “It is vital that our name accurately reflects who we are and what we do. The name Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association clearly states that we represent the companies that make up the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma. However, we are not just focused on exploration and production companies. We have a much broader focus, one that encompasses the midstream and downstream sectors of the industry. We truly represent the entire oil and gas industry in Oklahoma.”
A brief history of the Association: in October 1917, following the United States entry into World War I, a group of independent oil men, many of whom became legendary in the history of Oklahoma and the petroleum industry, met in Tulsa, Oklahoma to organize the Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association.
In 1919 they formed the Oklahoma-Kansas Division. It is one of the oldest petroleum associations in the United States. A principal purpose of the Association’s formation was to provide essential supplies of petroleum and petroleum product to the allied forces, helping the Allies, “…to float to victory upon a wave of oil.” Mid-Continent’s contribution to that success helped establish it as an Association in which individuals working cooperatively could resolve mutual problems and achieve great results.
Today, the Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association is a non-profit association composed of oil and gas producers, operators, purchasers, pipelines, transporters, processors and service companies which represent a substantial sector of the oil and gas industry within the State of Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association is dedicated to the advancement and improvement of the oil and gas industry within the State of Oklahoma and throughout the United States. The activities of the association include support for legislative and regulatory measures designed to promote both the well-being and best interests of the citizens of this state and a strong and vital petroleum industry within the State of Oklahoma and throughout the United States.
