State schools Superintendent Joy Hofmeister made it clear Thursday that she wants to play an active role in deciding what Oklahoma’s new math and English standards will look like.
Hofmeister, leading her first Board of Education meeting since taking office Jan. 12, told members she wants to sit on the steering committee that will recommend the best process for developing those standards.
“I am asking for an opportunity to be a part of that,” she said of the committee established over the summer following the repeal of Common Core. “I want to be a part of the standards writing process.”
Bill Price, one of three board members appointed by the board to serve on the committee (Amy Ford and Lee Baxter are the others), agreed to give up his seat on the committee so Hofmeister could take part.
