Hofmeister Outpaces Candidates for State School Superintendent

OKLAHOMA CITY (August 1, 2013) – Joy Hofmeister, an unannounced Republican candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction, today announced her campaign raised more than $165,000 from more than 400 individual contributors in 60 days.

Her fundraising from individuals significantly outpaced all other candidates for the school superintendent post, including that of the incumbent.

“I am humbled by the support I’ve received from people all across our state in such a short period of time,” said Hofmeister. “As a first-time potential candidate, I am encouraged by the commitment Oklahomans have shown through their enthusiastic and generous financial support.

“I’m impressed that the desire for a new direction, and the support of our campaign, comes from business leaders, educators, local school boards and parents.” Hofmeister raised $166,055.74 for the quarter ending June 30, 2013.

“Oklahomans have responded favorably to my positive approach toward school reform,” said Hofmeister. “During my travels across our state, I have heard from Oklahomans seeking a state superintendent with the ability to deliver meaningful education reform.”

Hofmeister went on to say, “My goal is to continue working with parents, educators and students to ensure our schools are headed in the right direction.”

Hofmeister said she formally will announce her intentions this fall.

Joy is a former public school teacher, an executive with private-sector experience and a researcher with a passion for finding ways to improve our schools and improve student academic performance. Joy’s experience, dedication and passion for reform led to her appointment to the State Board of Education. During her time on the State Board, Hofmeister developed an understanding of the current obstacles blocking meaningful reform of our schools. Taking what she learned from her tenure on the State Board of Education, she successfully will reform our schools through trust, respect and collaboration.

For 19 years, Hofmeister has supported her local Parent Teacher Association and has been a board member of the Jenks Public Schools Foundation. She and her husband have four children. Three of Joy’s children are graduates of Jenks Public Schools and their youngest is a senior at Jenks High School.
