Kendra Horn to run for 5th Congressional District in 2018
Says It’s Time to Take off Political Labels, Do What’s Right

Announcing for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District, Kendra Horn pledged to focus on making life better for middle class families – ensuring access to health care, guaranteeing equal pay for equal work, and giving every child the opportunity to receive a first-class public education. Kendra believes, “it’s time to take off the political labels and do what’s right for a change. It’s time to put aside political games that hurt working families.”

In an email to supporters and friends announcing her campaign, Kendra said she believes “in the power of ordinary people to make a difference.” She added that “there’s more that unites us than divides us.”

“I’m running for Congress because through my work in the public and private sector I have learned you need innovative thinking to inspire change.” Kendra continued, “I believe we need someone representing us in Washington who puts our communities first and will be a problem solver, not an extreme partisan politician.”

Kendra said she made the commitment to run so that “together we can make our state and our country a better place to live for people from all walks of life.”

Horn is a 5th generation Oklahoman and native of Chickasha. Growing up her parents taught her the importance of investing in people, taking initiative, and serving your community. Kendra’s commitment to these values led her to work her way through law school and continues to guide her at every turn.

An Oklahoma City resident, Kendra currently serves as a professional mediator and as Executive Director of Women Lead Oklahoma, a nonprofit dedicated to women’s empowerment, leadership, and civic engagement. Previously, she served as press secretary to former Oklahoma Congressman Brad Carson, led government affairs and communications for the Space Foundation, and practiced law. Kendra has also managed political campaigns and served as Executive Director for Sally’s List, where she led a concerted effort to encourage and support more women to run for and serve in elected office in Oklahoma.

Kendra is active in her community, serving on the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women Advisory Board and helps develop the next generation of leaders by working with the NEW Leadership Program and American Legion Girls State. Kendra is a lifelong Girl Scout and Gold Award recipient. She recently graduated from Leadership Oklahoma’s Class 30.

  • Kendra you say you are a 5th generation Okie and Native of Chickasha. I was born and raised in Chickasha, graduated HS there, went into the AF. We had a farm at Verden and my grandpa Horn had a farm at Alex. My parents are buried there and I will be buried in Verden. What line of Horn’s are you descended from? I also graduated from O U as well as most of my family. My Granddaughter is a professor there. My grandpa Horn was a die hard Democrat from east Texas who moved to Alex in 1917. My Grandpa Hinke moved to Verden in 1907. We still own the royalties. I do not like Steve Russell. I think he is in this for Steve Russell and not Oklahoma. Being associated with the Democrats kind of makes me reluctant. Bill Horn

  • As a pastor for 46 years I’m concerned that you have decided to be like too many of the individuals that get elected and then choose not to represent your constituency! For you to be elected and seemingly go along with your party in Washington is or should be an affront to those you serve! I would appreciate, and I think the citizens of Oklahoma would as well, hearing that you believe that the constant attempt to smear and keep our president from doing his job has been not only wrong but excessive! I for one believe that their hatred of Trump is corrupt! What say you?
