Lakin Distances Himself From Taylor Campaign

Lakin distances himself from Kathy Taylor campaign mailer

by KEVIN CANFIELD World Staff Writer

Tulsa Community Foundation CEO and City Councilor Phil Lakin distanced himself on Tuesday from a mailer sent by mayoral candidate Kathy Taylor, saying his name and words were used without his permission in the ad and that he is not endorsing her.

Lakin said the Taylor campaign took out of context a quote from him that appeared in a 2010 Tulsa People article. The quote was one of six from area leaders related to Taylor’s receiving the magazine’s Tulsan of the Year award.

“I am disappointed that the Taylor campaign used this quote without my consent, which I would not have given,” Lakin said in a prepared statement. “We work very hard at TCF to remain neutral, as we serve all Tulsans with a wide variety of opinions and needs.

“Neither TCF nor I have endorsed any candidate for public office at any time, and it is our policy to never do so. It is not in any way, shape or form a political endorsement, and I must set the record straight for those who may be confused by the mailer.”
