The Oklahoma Legislature is poised to wrap up the special session Monday just five working days after it began.
“We feel really confident that we’ll be done on Monday,” said Senate Pro Tem Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa. “Everything is on track.”
The special convening of the Oklahoma Legislature was called by Gov. Mary Fallin to address the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s overturning of a 2009 law aimed at reducing frivolous lawsuits, particularly in medical malpractice cases.
While many lawmakers have alternately questioned the necessity of a special session and asked that it be expanded to include other topics, the governor and Republican leadership have insisted on keeping the focus on one subject.
