McPeak considers running for lieutenant governor

State Rep. Jerry McPeak, D-Warner, delivers an impassioned endorsement on Tuesday for Wayne Herriman, right, who is competing for the House District 13 post McPeak will leave this year due to term limits.
Rep. Jerry McPeak plans to explore the opportunity to compete in 2018 to be the state’s next lieutenant governor, a post that will open up as a result of term limits.
The Warner Democrat, who in the past has resisted efforts to persuade him to run for a statewide post, said encouragement from an elected official who has attended his summer camp helped him come around. McPeak made the announcement Tuesday before delivering a fiery endorsement for Wayne Herriman, the Democratic nominee hoping to serve as the next representative of House District 13.
“For a while now, many of you have asked me what I was going to do next,” the term-limited McPeak said, acknowledging the sacrifices his family has made because of his public service. “It looks like we are considering some things, (and) I am telling you tonight that I am giving it much more consideration than I have before.”
