Congressman Markwayne Mullin Comments on
President’s Climate Change Proposals
WASHINGTON—Today President Obama spoke on his climate change agenda at Georgetown University. Congressman Markwayne Mullin made the following statement upon the conclusion of the President’s speech.
“The President chose to use today’s platform as an opportunity to make partisan attacks that do not create the unity he continually demands and this country deserves. When you put the political rhetoric aside, it is easy to find fault with the President’s proposals.
“These climate change proposals will burden hardworking Americans with new regulations and increased energy costs. Increased regulation will inhibit not only job creation, but also our nation’s entrepreneurial spirit overall. The ambition of entrepreneurs will be stifled through the cost of red tape, which will in turn force employees and consumers to pick up the tab.
“Additionally, these proposals are a slap in the face to our hardworking energy companies across the nation. The energy industry as a whole has worked tirelessly in recent years to reduce emissions and pollutants and yet they remain the enemy in the eyes of this administration. The energy industry is a job creator, and the way to get our economy back on track is through job creation. In the House we continue to remain focused on solutions that bring about job creation and economic growth. This week, we will act on legislation that clears the way for more jobs by increasing energy production in America—the opposite of what the President chose to do today.
“In addition to making harmful proposals, the President continues his stall tactics with the Keystone XL Pipeline—a project that would bring roughly $7 billion and 20,000 jobs to America’s economy. The conditions the President placed on the completion of this vital pipeline are just more delays. Enough is enough. Countless studies have been completed. Now is the time to act on finishing the construction of the Keystone pipeline.
“If we want America to be energy independent, let’s actually let America be energy independent.”
