Congressman Mullin Supports Offshore Energy and Jobs Act
Measure would boost economy, strengthen national security

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) voted today in support of H.R. 2231, the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act, which passed the U.S. House with a bipartisan vote of 235-186. H.R. 2231 expands U.S. offshore energy production by eliminating federal barriers that block the production of our nation’s energy resources.

Mullin said he was a strong supporter of the measure, noting the benefits it will generate.
“I was pleased to vote today for legislation that will finally spur economic growth and reduce the red tape from federal regulations,” said Mullin. “For far too long, our nation has been strapped when it comes to production of American energy resources, particularly offshore.”

H.R. 2231 could generate hundreds of millions of dollars in new revenue, and reduce energy costs across the country while growing the economy.

“Opening up production of our own energy will create job opportunities while paving the way for energy independence and tougher national security,” Mullin added. “Domestic energy production will also result in a cost savings to the pocketbooks of American families. Passage of this bill was critical to getting America on the road to recovery.”

Provisions in H.R. 2231 require the Secretary of the Interior to no longer cancel or delay in conducting oil and natural gas lease sales. Currently, 85 percent of America’s offshore areas are kept off limits to energy production due to the President’s lease plan. H.R. 2231 allows for greater efficiency and accountability in offshore energy operations, as well as enhances safety and ethical standards.
