Mullin To Host Veterans Appreciation Event
Congressman Mullin to Present Purple Heart Award And Host Veterans Appreciation Ceremony

MUSKOGEE – April 9, 2013 – Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) will present a Purple Heart to Tahlequah Veteran Paul Phillips in a special ceremony on Friday, April 19.
The ceremony will be held at Go Ye Village, 1201 W. 4th Street, Tahlequah, OK at 11 a.m. and will include a tribute to all military veterans. The public is welcome to attend. Veterans are
encouraged to attend and be recognized for their service.
“Our office is honored to be part of this ceremony and to pay tribute to all of the veterans in Northeastern Oklahoma who have served so honorably,” Mullin said. “Although men like Mr. Phillips have passed the torch of defending our freedoms to the next generation, we must never forget their sacrifices on behalf of our nation.”
Chief Petty Officer Phillips, U.S. Navy, Retired served in Vietnam as a Navy Seabee.
Chief Petty Officer Phillips and other Seabees were working in a building when an explosion occurred. Phillips received burns to 29 percent of his body and spent a year and a half in the
Hospital recovering, before returning to Vietnam.
