The vote was: Cyndi Munson 2,640 (53.8 percent); Chip Carter 2,268 (46.2 percent)
The House District 85 seat became vacant with the April 10 death David Dank, a Republican known for championing tax credit reform.
Munson, a former Girl Scouts community outreach manager, said during the campaign that she would like to see more money go to schools.
Munson said she favored calling off the 0.25 percent state income tax rate cut that is scheduled to take effect with the new year, calling it irresponsible at a time when the state is dealing with a deficit and teacher shortage.
Her opponent, a public relations worker, said he favored going forward with the tax cut.
