OKC term Limits Group Picks Up Legislative Endorsements
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 15, 2014
LEGISLATORS FROM OKC DISTRICTS ENDORSE TERM LIMITS PROPOSAL
Numerous legislators whose districts include the City of Oklahoma City have endorsed a citizen initiative to limit the terms of municipal elected officials.
Oklahoma City resident Bob Dani chairs the group supporting the initiative, OKC Term Limits Now! Dani praised the legislators’ support. “Oklahomans favor citizen legislators, not career politicians. By endorsing this proposal, these legislators are demonstrating real political courage, siding with the interests of ordinary citizens and not the professional political class,” Dani said.
Legislators endorsing the proposal include:
Mike Turner
Jon Echols
Dan Fisher
Sally Kern
Paul Wesselhoft
Mike Christian
Mike Reynolds
Lewis Moore
Rob Standridge
Ralph Shortey
All OKC area legislators were asked to endorse the proposal. Dani noted that nine of the country’s ten largest cities already have term limits. “At the end of the day,” Dani said, “our citizens will benefit from more choices, new faces, new ideas, new perspectives, and new solutions to old problems.”
Under the proposal, the OKC Mayor and city council members would be limited to two, four-year terms. After sitting out a term, they would be eligible to run again. About 6,000 valid signatures of Oklahoma City voters must be gathered to initiative for the ballot
