The End Is Near(er): Another Deadline Week Is Here

Lawmakers face deadline to get bills out of committee

Winnowing wheat from chaff on the threshing room floor of the state Capitol grows a little more intense over the next few days as legislators approach a major deadline.

Except for appropriations bills, this week is the final one in which Senate committees will hear legislation from the House and House committees will hear Senate bills and resolutions.

Those not advanced from committees to the full House and Senate become dormant until next session.

Some of the legislation expected to go out with the trash at the end of the work are duplicative bills kept alive until now as backups. Some are considered not yet ready for prime time, and will likely come back next spring in more polished form.
