The Tulsa Regional Chamber has a new moto and recruitment plan for attracting jobs throughout the energy sector.
The new nickname, “A World Class Energy City,” trumpets Tulsa’s pre-eminent place alongside such industry centers as Houston, Denver and Calgary. Tulsa’s energy-related employment, city leaders have noted, is comparable to Oklahoma City, home to Devon Energy, Chesapeake Energy and Continental Resources.
The blueprint for pitching Tulsa to employers includes details on how to promote the city and its industry-savvy workforce. Tulsa’s energy recruiters are targeting industry leaders by sectors: Tier 1 is oil and gas manufacturing, exploration and production, and midstream (pipeline, processing and refining); Tier 2 is oil-field service and compressed natural gas infrastructure; Tier 3 is private equity companies.
“The primary benefit of this initiative is the development of a new, consistent marketing message for the Tulsa region’s energy industry, and one the Chamber, the mayor’s office and members of the industry can support,” Elissa Baker, project manager for economic development at the Chamber, said Friday.
This is great news. As many international oil and gas related companies have headquarters in Tulsa, the efforts to increase job opportunities will lead to improved livelihood for people in the oil and gas industry.
