Given recent registration trends, Tulsa attorney Michael Whelan figures the more Democrats in one place, the better.
So Whelan, a member of the DNC’s national finance committee, persuaded officials to sponsor a Tulsa fundraising event with a high-profile headliner and a relatively low contribution.
The result is a 2 p.m. reception Tuesday at the Summit Club featuring Vice President Joe Biden. Ostensibly, the minimum contribution is $250, which is fairly low for such events, but Whelan says a few students and others will get in for less.
“Typically, these kinds of events are in smaller rooms,” he said. “One of the things I really pushed to the DNC was that we could still hit the goal, but open it up to a bigger part of the community. We want as many people to be able to participate as possible.”
