City councilors have set an informal deadline for outlining a more aggressive marketing plan for Tulsa and determining whether the city’s traditional marketing authority – the Tulsa Regional Chamber – should be involved.
Better marketing was identified as a city priority during a mayor-council goal-setting retreat last month, when officials agreed that Tulsa had fallen behind peer cities in its ability to promote itself – particularly through online videos and social media.
Councilors now must determine whether the chamber is willing or able to craft an online-centric marketing plan to their liking or the task should be delegated wholly or in part to the city’s Communications Department or a private firm, several councilors said.
Councilors want to meet with chamber executives before their April 15 deadline to “find out what they’re doing to market our city and how those efforts can be better coordinated,” Councilor Phil Lakin said.
